Learning to wear a sari

As a Westerner, it took me some time to learn how to wear a sari.

There is a sort of grace that comes with wearing this elegant garment.

But once you become used to the feel of the sari around your body and learn how to walk in it, you can do almost anything in a sari (just probably not a lot of running or hiking).

To begin, make sure you already have your petticoat and blouse on. You will also need safety pins, I prefer the bigger ones, and they often sell these by the handful on the street in India.

I would also suggest you wear high heels when wrapping the sari even if you take them off when you are finished.

There are many instructional videos on how to drape a sari  (from youtube: https://www.youtube.com/) so you have to pick the one that is best for you.

Above I have shown you the most common styles that I have seen but I’m sure there are lots more.
